Now that Jordin Sparks is in the “American Idol†finals a few people are questioning her rise to fame. Some have started to question if the producers helped her along her way and essentially set up to eventually make it into the finale.
Her first meeting with Simon was not at her Seattle audition. She also has won a few competitions leading up to her Idol experiences that were sponsored by Coke and Ford (Idol’s biggest sponsors).
This article outlines her road to the Idol finals. Thought it doesn’t cry foul at the outset it does bring up some interesting points.
Sparks won Coke’s rising star award in 2004. The power of a huge sponsor is undeniable, but no actual connection between Coke and Idol with regards to Sparks has been established, so this point is more conspiracy buff fodder than the type of tidbit that sounds alarms.
Another item that has been highlighted is the fact that Jordin Sparks won the local FOX-sponsored Arizona Idol contest. The grand prize for that contest was a Ford Fusion (another huge Idol sponsor), and a trip to Seattle to audition. Some folks, especially paranoid ones, are taking this to mean that Sparks sidestepped the auditoriums full of hopefuls to get an audience with Randy, Simon, and Paula.
Of course she didn’t audition in the auditorium. Even if she didn’t go directly to Simon and Paula I’m almost 100% sure that every producer knew to put her through to Simon/Paula day.
I’m guessing she will win, and maybe she was set up for it but I think that she deserves it. She is from Arizona, which is awesome in my book (and the Beet’s as well) and she has been pounding the pavement for her big break for a few years now. AZCentral has a great article also about her as well.
Go Jordin! I am a Blaker Girl myself but I think that Jordin deserves the crown, no matter how she got here.
She should be disqualified. Of course they are setting her up to win. No other contestant got the royal treatment that she got. She would be ashamed if she had any dignity about herself, but she is a selfish brat and will take whatever she can get however she can get it. I hope Blake takes her down and at the same time throws this obvious set up right back in American Idol’s face.
Jordin Sparks more than deserves to win because she has outshined the competition and is the American Idol out of the bunch. Just because she was blessed with a few opportunities does NOT mean that any wrong doing was committed. Go Jordin! We love you Jordin!
Bull. She is the epitome of an American Idol. She has a phenominal voice for someone her age and she’s cute as can be. I’ve been voting for her big time and so has everyone in my circle. No matter what happens someone always has to scream “It’s a fix!”.
A local Ford dealership has sponsored contestants in all the Idol shows, they run commercials with their contest winners tall the time (I live in Arizona). She deserves to win and no one has the right to belittle her talent or accomplishments with stupid unfounded conjecture.

I don’t think that America always vote the best consistant vocalist, they often vote who they like. Melinda should have been in the finals; no question about it. Blake is okay, but should have been eliminated earlier (top 48 men) plus there were others a lot greater. Jordin is great, but Melinda proved why she should be this years American Idol!

Nothing in the info given tells me she had help. It does tell me that she is a great singer and has won other big awards already. Producers did not help her. She won the Arizona Idol and part of the winnings was an audition on American Idol. I guess the producers were help Sanjaya too. What it all comes down to is the American public voting for the overall best. I think Melinda had the best voice but Jordin posseses that total apple pie image and has the 2nd best voice but the overall total package. I think Melinda will have a longer music career and Jordin will quickly get into acting.
I think Blake should have been eliminated long time from the competition. Because Melinda sings better than him, therefore I don’t understand why she is eliminated and Blake is now a finalist. Actually, Jordin and Melinda were the deserving American Idol finalists for this year but NOT Blake.
Jordin will get the crown and Blake will get the actual record sales. Sounds good to me!
It would be recalled that about three weeks ago BLAKE was VOTED LAST and he was then supposed to go home, but he was favored and rather two people were sent home the following week excluding himself. Surprisingly, he is now a finalist which is making me to loss interest in the whole American Idol show. Because I think the Judges and the entire show is not fair, thus if a person like BLAKE has been voted as a finalist while better competitors like Melinda, Lakeisha, Stacy and so on have been voted out. However, I’m urging the American Idol Judges and the organisers for them to do their home work well to be fair in their judgements in order to produce America the right and a deserving IDOL. Really, I’m strongly aginst BLAKE being still in the competion and MELINDA voted out.
I think that it is a sad day when a singer with the God given talent that Melinda possesses is not in the finals. I actually love Blake’s talent, but he definitely did not deserve to be in the finals more than Melinda did or Lakeisha for that matter. You know what really upsets me is the judges putting 24 people up there and half of them never should have been up there in the first place. Sanjaya prime example….and then they have the audacity to get upset when America doesn’t vote the one off that they think should go. Well hello!!! You can’t get mad when you are the one’s who put them up there in the first place. Jordin has a wonderful voice and has a lot of promise, but Melinda is the true American Idol

If this were a True “Talent” contest, then Melinda would by far be the winner. Alas, American Idol is NOT a talent contest. It IS however, a “Favorites” contest.
As I have said many times, this season, the teens should be judged in a different contest than the 20 somethings.
It is highly unfair for a person like Melinda to be voted off and to have a mere child, and the child of a Pro Football Player to boot, usurp what should have been a no brainer. The reason Jordan is still there is because of the mostly teenage vote. Pure and Simple.

I think Melinda is a great singer and I also think Blake has talent,
but I love Jordin’s performances she really has what it takes to

I WILL NOT watch American Idol again, It was so unfair that Malinda was voted off. Her voice and performance was better than Blake and Jordin. Blake is getting on my nerves with his so called talent. Jordin is good but Malinda should have been the Next American Idol.

Even if she had sponsors, the sponsor did not sing for her, she did, and the voice of the sponsor is not the millions of America’s voice which is reflected in the vote. Even if Jordin did have sponsers, she still deserved to win! If Jordin wasn’t an amazing singer, the sponser wouldn’t be interested! If she did have a sponser, it’s because she proved she had an awsome voice! Melinda will still get a record deal, because she is good, but can you imagine going to see her in concert?! She acts like a timid little mouse and would not do well in the world of Hollywood. While she is a good singer, she doesn’t have the total package like Jordin does.
