“I regret that she didn’t live past 1963 and see that I did get some really good white folks … working for me.”

Oprah Winfrey, at Howard University’s commencement ceremony, on her grandmother’s hope that she would find “some good white folks” to work for.

  • You misinterpret.. she was using the quote terminology in the way her mother spoke. It was without evil intent.

  • If a white person had said this about black people, there wouldn’t be enough hours in the day for Al Sharpton to go ape shit over this.

  • Quoting her grandmother was fine. Her follow-up comment was self-serving and unnecessary.

It would have been just as effective had she followed up with, “I achieved that and more”.

  • Oprah is openly racist, has been for a long time. This doesn’t really surprise anyone. And yes MiJo, you are right.
If someone said “I regret that she didn’t live past 1963 and see that I did get some really good black folks…working for me” they would be in a world of trouble. But luckily we live in the age of double-standard racism where ol’ whitey has to accept blatant discrimination or be called a bigot.

  • I was actually among the recent Howard University graduating class and Oprah was such an inspiration!!! I love her! The crowd adored her :)

  • A lot of people are jealous of:
    “Black” / “Billionaire” / “Oprah”
    Get a life!
I love and admire her. No matter what, she had to work to get where she is today!
Hard work is the result not putting people down.
    Check your insecurities!!!
